Soundtrack in my head

Every once in a while Husband leaves a CD in my car; this week it was a compilation of all kinds of European songs. It's rather ecclectic; he's outdone himself this time, as it starts with ABBA & then goes to Bach, the Tarantella, and German heavy metal. (and that's just the first part!) And since I can occasionally be a bit lazy... I've been listening to it all week.

However, he also included this song by Ozone, a now-defunct Romanian pop band that I fell in love with the summer after Bird was born. (hey, a newborn + lots of daytime TV = some really bizarre loves!). The songs were just so light and happy, and that was something I really needed in those first few weeks. I later Googled & discovered that the lyrics really were as empty and bubble-gummy as they sounded, but somehow that has not diminished my enjoyment!

Pomp and Circumstance

Tonight was graduation. A time of celebration and reflection. 50 students (+1 in memorium) who are no longer children.

It was a lovely ceremony - after all the welcoming & prayers, the students headed out into the auditorium to give flowers & hugs to their friends & families, and then we watched a video where each senior individually gave thanks & praise to those who had been loving & supporting them all these years. And then - finally! - the diplomas!! Everyone received one this year, though a few just barely scraped by at the last minute.

This is one of those times when I wish I was a truly gifted writer, because then surely the words would just flow out of my fingers as fast as I could type. I am proud of these former children, and hopeful of the adults they will grow to be. May they change the world for the better.

School's Out for Summer!!

WOO HOO!!!!

It's been a long year, and I am very ready for a break. No alarm clock (except Bird), I can stay in my jammies till noon if I want to, time to catch up on the huge stack of books to read.... fantastic!!

This won't exactly be a peaceful summer (is any summer peaceful once you have kids?) as I have new textbooks & new classes to teach next year. So I will be spending some 'quality' time with my school stuff, but it's so much easier to do my job when there aren't any students around! Besides, chemistry by the pool is far more fun than chemistry at my desk!

Bliss

7:30pm. Thanks to a hard day's playing and no nap, both Bug & Bird are asleep.

Husband is out at a work dinner, so I am all by myself. What shall I do with my time?!?!

Perhaps I should call her Magpie instead?

Today when we got home I found 3 pieces of gum, a marble, and a toy baby bottle in Birdy's pockets. None of them actually belonged to us.

So does that make him a Sugar Daddy or a Boy Toy?

spoken by a college coed in the parking lot:
"no! he's not 40! actually, he looks old but he's really only 17."

Splash!!

I have 2 small children - Bird (girl - 4) and Bug (boy - 2). We live in SuperHotPlace in the US, so you can imagine that it's rather warm today. We do have a pool, but the kiddos cannot swim in it yet, nor do I have great plans to take them in there without Husband!

However, Birdy has been begging to go swimming. We've even gone out & bought a new swimsuit for the summer, and she's dying to use it.

To make a long story short (too late?!), thanks to Target we have a cute little inflatable pool. Perfect. Except that the big pool looks like lots of fun & I have to keep repeating "stay out of the big pool!"

The Beginning

Oh dear. I've started a blog. What have I done?!
